Many iPhone users are upset that they will have to pay more for the iPhone 3GS, since those who are under contract cannot get a new phone at a discounted price. I don’t see why they should be angry; they already have an amazing piece of technology, so what if they can’t get the next big thing that will become obsolete in less than a year? It seems that some humans just aren’t content no matter what they have, maybe they should have everything taken away to become more appreciative. That’s my philosophical argument of the day.

Thomas Edison is arguably the greatest inventor in American history. Not only did he invent many devices himself, but he improved on others and helped make major industrial progress. If Edison had not been born, who knows how long it would have taken for another to come along and reach the accomplishments he did.

Edison’s early history is eventful, as he was the seventh child in his family and much of his learning occurred informally. He was born in Milan, Ohio, in 1847, but he lived most of his childhood in Michigan. Notably, he was especially adept at working with chemistry sets.

The most memorable thing about Edison is his invention of the light bulb, but that barely scratches the surface of this astounding man. He had one-thousand ninety-three United States patents, as well as many others in Europe.

His contributions well exceeded small appliances. Edison was a chief engineer in the development of mass telecommunication and electrical distribution, both of which are necessary to our daily lives. He also started several power plants.

Despite his enormous intellect, Edison was known to be unfair and aggressive. For example, he offered Nikola Tesla fifty-thousand dollars in exchange for improving his company’s generators. When Tesla completed the task, Edison said he was joking, and then even refused Tesla a small raise.

Edison was a strong proponent of direct current electricity, while Tesla favored alternating current, which does happen to be the more efficient way of transporting electricity long distances. This was the chief reason they disagreed so much, although Tesla did end up winning the Edison Medal, which is the most prestigious medal in the electrical field.

In regards to the light bulb specifically, it is a perfect example of Edison’s determination. He had to try thousands of different filaments to find the one that worked properly, but it was only after he patented his initial light bulb that he found a much better filament, which was carbonized bamboo.

As for philosophical beliefs, Edison was a peaceful man who believed in non-violence and the power of nature. There are dozens of Edison memorials in existence, as well as businesses named after him. General Electric, one of the largest modern corporations, was founded by Edison, and his contributions to humanity will never be forgotten.

Recently, a new addition to The Sims was released; not just some crappy expansion pack, but an actual numbered sequel! When I was younger, I truly did enjoy the original Sims game, and I did buy a few of the expansion packs for it. I never played The Sims 2, and don’t even get me started on how I have more never played this third installment, but I can tell you this: It is definitely awesome.

According to the product description, the neighborhoods are more open for exploration, the characters more customizable and unique (each with their own noticeable, consistent personalities), and the jobs are more interesting and numerous. I am seriously considering buying this game, depending on how things work out in the future. But really, don’t let my indecisiveness stop you from doing what you need to do, which is buy this game!

The website was recently acquired by Systemax Inc., and they plan on doing some major upgrades, including offering discounted prices and tons of video reviews. Systemax also took control of CompUSA, and they seem to be expanding at a rapid rate. Look about Best Buy and Wal-Mart, this new player might be tough to beat!

Being that Circuit City is officially a piece of dead meat, Wal-Mart has decided to expand its electronics section in order to fill the cold, empty void left by C.C. New products will include laptops, netbooks, wireless devices, and cell phones.

The main competitor to Wal-Mart is Best Buy, which officially claims that it is not afraid of Wal-Mart’s planned actions. I believe that the Best Buy executives are actually quivering in their boots and wondering what the best option is next to suicide. I guess we’ll see how things work out.

This cheap yet quality laptop is one of the latest products by ASUS. Honestly, I had never heard of this company before I came across this laptop, but it is a great piece. It costs only $410 and is extremely light and thin, perhaps the thinnest I’ve ever seen at 1-inch. That’s pretty thin, but I hope we never get to a point where we are measuring electronics by the centimeter; if we already are, then God help us all.

In any case, the technical specifications include a 1.66GHz Intel N280 Processor, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, and 6 hours of battery life.
